Coach wants Tigers to finish strong

It's important for the team to finish strong, said Tiger coach Chris Brown at Tuesday's weekly news conference.

Brown, in his first year as coach of the Fort Hays State University football team, has his team at 3-6 overall and 2-5 in the MIAA entering the final two games of the season, both at home. The Tigers are coming off a 45-20 loss at then 12th-ranked Washburn University.

A couple of wins would be just what the doctor ordered.

"It's very important for these kids, building confidence for the future," Brown said. "It's these seniors' last go-around. You got two games left, what are you going to do with it?

"I go, we need to win these two games -- you need to lay it on the line," he added. "You sophomores, juniors and freshmen, you got to put it all out there for them."

The players want to see the program take the first step of turning things around.

"They want to see the change in this program," Brown said. "Get the next two wins ... be a big part of that change."

If practice is any indicator, the Tigers could be ready for Missouri Southern State University (3-5 overall, 2-5 MIAA) for Saturday's 2 p.m. kickoff at Lewis Field Stadium.

"They were very focused (Tuesday) in practice," Brown said. "Had a lot of enthusiasm, lot of excitement, and they were flying around in practice.

"I think they're pretty much focused in," Brown added. "They know they're just a few plays away from winning a bunch of these ball games."
