The Fort Hays State University baseball team continues to struggle when junior Eric Gilliland doesn't pitch. After Gilliland earned a victory Friday night, the Tigers dropped their next three games against Missouri Western State University, including a 13-6 defeat Sunday afternoon at Larks Park.
The Tigers have lost four of their past five with the only victory with Gilliland (team-best 2.30 ERA) on the mound. In the four losses, Fort Hays has permitted 46 runs, including 27 in the last two games against Missouri Western. The Tigers dropped to 4-12 overall and 1-3 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.
Junior right-hander Brian Thompson (0-3) took the loss Sunday. He got one out and allowed six runs before being replaced. Freshman catcher Ryan Majercik went 4-for-4 with a run scored, RBI, homer and a double to lead the offense. In 21 at-bats, Majercik is batting .471 with seven RBIs. The Tigers play two road games against Rockhurst University on Tuesday and Wednesday in Kansas City, Mo.
