Maska, Haynes continue to pour it one for Tigers

4/14/2008

(HDN) -- Junior sprinter Bryan Haynes and senior thrower Brady Maska continued their outstanding seasons for the Fort Hays State University track and field teams at the NCAA Division II Challenge at Emporia State University over the weekend.

Haynes, the 200-meter indoor national champion, bounced back from a second place finish at the 200-meters last weekend at the FHSU Quadrangular. He won the 200-meters with a time of 21.13 seconds and won by three tenths of a second over runner-up Emporia freshman Kenton Lonberger, who defeated him at the 200-meters in the indoor conference meet.

Maska, arguably the best all-around thrower in Div. II, won the shot put with a throw of 55 feet, one inch and earned discus honors with a distance of 172-2. Maska has not been beaten in a shot put or a discus competition this spring.

Sharley Schreiner won the 10,000 meter run with a time of 42:33.61. Fort Hays also had several second place finishes. On the women's side, junior Lindsay McCormick was second in the javelin with a throw of 137-7. Megan McClain was second in the 400-meter hurdles (1:06.19) and the 1600-meter relay team also earned a second place finish (4:04.75). On the boys' side, Aaron Davidson was a runner=up in the 5,000-meter run (15:35.07) and Garrett Edgar was second in the javelin (205 feet).

The Tiger men and women both finished fourth.
