Tiger softball team goes 2-2

DURANT, Okla. --  After a pair of wins Friday, the Fort Hays State University softball team dropped a pair Saturday in tournament action.

The Tigers fell 6-4 to No. 21 ranked Angelo (Texas) State in their first game Saturday, then 10-2 to Abilene Christian (Texas).

The two losses dropped the Tigers to 10-6 on the year. They will play two games today in Durant, facing St. Mary's (Texas) at noon, then No. 8 Southeastern Oklahoma State at 2 p.m.

The Tigers won a pair of games Friday, defeating Newman 1-0, and Central Oklahoma, 7-2.

Against Newman (0-1), junior Adrian Mohr pitched a shutout to earn the victory as Fort Hays put up a run in the seventh to break the scoreless tie. Freshman Lauren Duran drove in Savannah Hall on one of the Tigers' seven hits. Senior Hallie McMillen had three of hits for Fort Hays. Against Central Oklahoma (3-2), sophomore left-hander Kayla Rupa pitched a complete game, giving up four hits and one earned run with a walk. She also recorded 11 strikeouts.

Mohr, McMillen, and freshman Rachel Gemmill each drove in a pair of runs for Fort Hays. The Tigers put up three runs in the seventh, and Central Oklahoma scored one in the fifth and seventh. Gemmill finished 2-for-2 with a pair of runs scored and a home run. McMillen also had a homer.
