Tigers split so far on road trip

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- The Fort Hays State University tennis team started its three-day road swing in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association with a loss and a win Friday and Saturday.
On Friday, the Tigers dropped a 6-0 dual to Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Mo., and defeated Missouri Western State University 6-3 in St. Joseph, Mo., on Saturday.
The three-dual trip wraps up with today's 3 p.m. action against Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Mo.
Saturday's win moved the Tigers to 7-2 on the year, and 2-1 in the spring schedule, and provided a 1-1 start in MIAA action.
The Tigers started with a win at No. 3 doubles Saturday by Kris Marten and Mary Kate McKee, who won 8-3 over Missouri Western's Amber Adams and Lindsey Frisbie. The Tigers then took five of the six singles matches as Samantha Islas suffered the Tigers' only loss at No. 1, 6-1, 6-3. Brette Baldwin won 6-5, 7-5 at No. 2, while Rebekah Lynn, Marten, McKee, and Jennifer Lamb won at 3, 4, 5, and 6, respectively.
After today's dual, the Tigers will be back in action on the road March 25 at Missouri Southern State University. First home action for Fort Hays is March 28 against Colorado Christian University.
