Haynes leads Tigers at meet

WICHITA --  The Fort Hays State University track and field teams brought home six individual titles in Saturday's K.T. Woodman Invitational at Wichita State University.

Among them was a pair of top finishes for junior sprinter Bryan Haynes. Haynes won the 100-meter dash in a time of 10.53 seconds, then followed with a 21.53 in the 200 for his second win.

Sophomore Riley Voth added a win in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing in 9 minutes, 53.64 seconds. He was part of a 1-2 finish in the event for the Tigers, followed by senior Matt Goetz (9:55.73).

Competing unattached, former Tiger thrower and current coach Brady Maska threw a 178 feet, 1 inch to win the discus, while Tiger sophomore Mitch Sahfeld won the shot put, tossing 49-61âÑ4. Junior Ryan Small finished second in the event at 49-5.

Tiger senior Jay Lindal also finished second in the 1,500-meter run in 3:57.58.

On the women's side, freshman Morgan Witzell cleared 5-5 to win the high jump. clearing the same height as Cloud County Community sophomore Jamie Pruter, former jumper for Osborne High School.

Senior Lindsay McCormick finished second in the javelin, throwing 131-3, nearly 19 feet behind Kansas State University sophomore Ali Pistora.

The Woodman Relays included programs from all levels, including Kansas State, Kansas, Wichita State and several community colleges. Fort Hays was the only from NCAA Div. II team to compete.

The Tigers are set to compete this weekend at the KU Relays in Lawrence.
