Central Missouri leads after decathlon

The multi portion of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Outdoor Championships wrapped up Monday at Lewis Field Stadium.

Fort Hays State University freshman Luke Lubbers and sophomore Catherine Wurtz finished in 10th and 12th, respectively in the men's and women's division.

Lubbers scored 4,927 points in the men's decathlon after the five events Monday in the two-day competition. University of Central Missouri's A.J. Roth won the decathlon title with 6,820 points.

Lubbers took second place in the pole vault, clearing 14-feet 3 1/4 inches.

Central Missouri leads the team standings heading into this weekend's outdoor event at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Mo. Action gets started at 4 p.m. Saturday.

On the women's side, Central Missouri will have a 10-point lead following Anne Carlson's win in the heptathlon. The women finished with three events Monday. Wurtz finished with 3,822 points for the Tigers. Wurtz's best event came in the 100-meter hurdles, where she finished third in 15.93 seconds.
