EDMOND, Okla. --  In his first season, Fort Hays State University wrestling coach Chas Thompson already has a big win.

Thompson's Tigers went on the road Thursday, and came away with a big upset victory, downing No. 5 ranked University of Central Oklahoma on its home mat, 21-19.

In the final match of the night, Fort Hays junior Tyler Gonzales earned a takedown in the final moments of the 184-pound match to grab a lead and send the Tigers to the two-point victory. It was the Tigers' first win in Edmond in program history.

The victory was one of five for the Tigers, with redshirt freshman Ben Evans starting the dual with a victory by pin at 197 pounds, giving the Tigers a 6-0 edge.

Tiger senior James Annon, the No. 2 ranked wrestler in Division II, recorded a 4-2 overtime decision over No. 3 ranked Colby Robinson, and No. 4 Danny Grater picked up a 5-2 decision for the Tigers at 157 over Kelly Henderson.

Tiger senior Troy Lussenhop shocked No. 3 ranked Mikey Morgan of Central Oklahoma by recording the pin in 3:25, a win at 165 that gave Fort Hays an 18-15 lead.

Central Oklahoma had seven ranked wrestlers compete, and two of them were dealt losses.

The Tigers are on the road again this weekend, competing in the Central Missouri Dual Jamboree in Warrensburg, Mo. Fort Hays (2-0) will take on No. 19 Minnesota State-Moorehead, Unversity of Mary, and No. 10 Wisconsin-Parkside, all on Sunday.
