Fort Hays cross country teams finish seocnd

KEARNEY, Neb. -- Both the men's and women's cross country teams for Fort Hays State University finished second in Friday's season-opening triangular.

Senior Raven Boettger finished first overall for the FHSU women at the Loper Twilight Cross Country Meet at the Meadowlark Hills Golf Course. Nebraska-Kearney placed first overall, scoring 28 points, and FHSU was second with 31 points. Hastings College finished third, with 68 points.

Boettger finished 25 seconds ahead of the competition, in 17 minutes, 15 seconds on the 4,500 meter course.

Nebraska-Kearney's Bridgette Schneekloth was second in 17:40.

Kylie Gaughan and Alex Nelson were fifth and sixth for FHSU, in 17:51 and 17:54, respectively. Heidi Hines was ninth in 18:24, while Carman Hill finished in 18:29 for 10th.

On the men's side, Nebraska-Kearney finished first in the 6k race, with 22 points. FHSU had 36 points, while Hastings finished with 83.

The top finisher for the Tigers was junior Alex Hendee, in 19:27 for third place. Cory Keehn finished two seconds behind Hendee in 19:29 for fourth.

Nebraska-Kearney's Al Sanabria won in 19:09.

Also scoring points for the Tigers were Kyle Calvin, Isaac Mills and Nathan Purdue. Calvin finished in eighth place with a time of 19:55. Mills placed 12th in 20:24 and Purdue finished in 17th in 20:39.
