Tigers hire new soccer coaches

By RANDY GONZALESrgonzales@dailynews.netFort Hays State University took one of the first steps in starting its men's and women's soccer programs with the hiring of Oliver Twelvetrees and Craig Shaw.Twelvetrees and Shaw were introduced in an on-campus news conference Wednesday morning. Twelvetrees, currently coaching at Barton County Community College, will take over the Tiger men's program. Shaw, who will coach the Tiger women's team, comes to Fort Hays from Ottawa University. The programs will be begin play in fall 2011. A soccer stadium is currently under construction at the site of the new sports complex."I think this is an important day in our athletic history," FHSU President Edward Hammond said. "We've been talking about soccer for some time coming to Fort Hays State University."Twelvetrees, 31, who has been at BCCC the past four seasons, will coach the Cougars in the fall before joining FHSU in December. Shaw, 29, has been the head coach at Ottawa the last three years. He will be on board this fall, and will coordinate recruiting efforts.For more on this story, see Thursday's HDN
