Tiger baseball team starts season 1-2 in Texas

SAN ANGELO, Texas -- The Fort Hays State University baseball team dropped the final game of its three-game series with San Angelo State, losing 14-9 on Sunday.
After winning Friday's season opener, the Tigers dropped the next two games to San Angelo State, ranked ninth in NCAA Division II.
After San Angelo State took a 5-0 lead, Chase Schippers hit a two-run homer in the Tiger third. But San Angelo State scored four in the bottom of the inning to lead 9-2.
Fort Hays starter Kevin Large (0-1) gave up five runs in 11/3 innings.
Fort Hays closed within 9-5 in the fifth on a two-run double by Tyler Robbins and Alex Denning's run-scoring double. But the Rams scored five in the sixth to lead 14-5.
Dusty Washburn hit a sacrifice fly in the seventh and Greg Bieker and Schippers hit RBI singles in the eighth. Justin Groff hit an RBI double in the ninth.
Fort Hays (1-2) will play Kansas Wesleyan University Saturday at 1 p.m. at Larks Park in the Tigers' home opener.
