Tigers sweep Lopers

The Fort Hays State University baseball team swept University of Nebraska-Kearney in a doubleheader Friday at Larks Park.
The Tigers won 1-0 in the opener and 3-1 in the second game. Fort Hays is 4-0 on the home stand and 5-3 overall.
In Game 1, Fort Hays broke a scoreless tie with a run in the bottom of the sixth. Junior Richard Bonansea led off the inning with a walk and advanced to third on an error by the Loper first baseman. Senior Rob Nelson followed with a sacrifice fly.
Senior Tyler Nuss pitched the seventh to earn a save. The win went to junior left-hander Jordan Randa (1-1), who pitched six innings, allowing one hit with four walks and six strikeouts. The only hit for the Lopers was a one-out single in the fourth.
In Game 2, Fort Hays scored two runs in the first and one more in the second. Bonansea led off the first with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice and scored on Nelson's single. Nelson stole second and scored on a single by senior Jason Pfeifer.
In the Fort Hays second, senior Cody Staten doubled, moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a sacrifice bunt by Bonansea.
Tiger senior Tom Goodwin. Goodwin (1-0) worked six innings, allowing five hits, with no walks and five strikeouts. Tyler Nuss pitched the seventh for his second save of the day and third of the season.
