Emporia sweeps Fort Hays baseball

EMPORIA -- Emporia State University finished a series sweep of the Fort Hays State University baseball team, beating the Tigers 13-3 in seven innings on Sunday.
The Hornets (32-3), ranked sixth in the nation, won their 25th consecutive game and are 18-0 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.
Tiger starter Kevin Large (2-4) allowed six runs in two innings, and the Hornets led 9-2 after three innings.
Eric Shortell hit doubles and a homer and drove in four runs for Emporia State, which moved within two wins of the conference's all-time record for consecutive wins, set by University of Central Missouri.
Fort Hays is now 11-19 overall and 8-10 in the MIAA. Logan Burditt hit a two-run homer for the Tigers.
Fort Hays will be at home Tuesday for a 2 p.m. doubleheader against Washburn University at Larks Park.
