Tiger baseball takes two from ranked UNO

OMAHA, Neb. -- The Fort Hays State University baseball team has won five straight on the road after Sunday's doubleheader sweep of 16th-ranked University of Nebraska-Omaha.
The Tigers rallied to win the opener 11-4 and took the second game of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association doubleheader, 10-6.
Fort Hays trailed 4-1 in Game 1 before scoring four runs in the sixth and six in the seventh. In the Tiger sixth, senior AJ Levunduski's groundout scored one run, and a pinch-hit double by senior Brett Becker made it 4-3. The Tigers took the lead by scoring two runs on UNO's second error of the inning. The wins were the first for Fort Hays against a ranked team this year.
In the top of the seventh, sophomore Ryan Majercik and junior Tyler Robbins hit RBI singles, followed by junior Greg Crowe's run-scoring single and sophomore Kyle Stacken's bases-loaded walk. Junior Greg Bieker, who homered in the second to start the Tigers' scoring, capped the big inning with a two-run single.
Junior Sean Bartholomew pitched five innings to get the victory. Bartholomew (2-0) allowed four runs, all unearned, on five hits. He walked two and struck out two. Junior Garrett Morgan pitched the final two innings for his fourth save.
Robbins finished with four hits, with a run scored and an RBI.
In the second game, Fort Hays (28-20 overall, 20-14 MIAA) took a 1-0 lead on an error before Nebraska-Omaha (32-13, 22-8) scored four in the bottom of the first against Tiger senior starter Brian Thompson.
Fort Hays answered with four runs in the second. Robbins hit a two-run single, Crowe singled in another run and junior Brennan Peterson had an RBI groundout.
The Tigers added three in the fifth. Stacken and Bieker hit back-to-back RBI doubles, followed by Levandusky's RBI single, all with two out.
Robbins added a two-run single in the eighth to give him four RBIs in the game.
Thompson (2-3) settled down to pitch five scoreless innings after the first. Morgan pitched the seventh and junior Aaron Nuss worked the eighth and got the first two outs in the ninth, giving up a pair of runs. Junior Mat Atkinson got the final out for his ninth save.
The two teams were scheduled to play another doubleheader this afternoon.
