Tigers' road streak comes to an end

OMAHA, Neb. -- The Fort Hays State University baseball team's five-game road winning streak was snapped Monday by University of Nebraska-Omaha. The Mavericks swept a doubleheader from the Tigers, winning 6-2 in the opener and 16-6 in seven innings in the nightcap.
In Game 1, Fort Hays tied the game in the fifth on Chase Schippers' two-run homer, but the Mavericks scored two in the home half of the fifth and two more in the sixth.
Tiger senior starter Eric Gilliland took the loss (8-6). He allowed four runs on three hits in four innings, with four walks and three strikeouts.
In the second game, UNO (34-13 overall, 24-8 MIAA) used a nine-run third to take a 15-3 lead.
Tiger senior starter Kent Williamson (6-3) lasted 1 1/3 innings. Williamson surrendered five runs, all earned, on four hits and two walks.
Senior Brett Becker hit a two-run triple in the second inning. Junior Greg Bieker, senior Alex Harvey and sophomore Ryan Majercik all had an RBI.
The Tigers are now 28-22 overall and 20-16 in the MIAA. The Tigers play host Tabor College today at 6 p.m. at Larks Park.
