Tiger baseball players honored

Eight members of the Fort Hays State University baseball team were named to the All-Mid America Intercollegiate Athletics Association team released Monday.
Senior pitcher Justin Randa was the lone Tiger named to the first team. The 6-foot-5, 210-pound left-hander finished 7-2 with a 2.38. earned-run average in 79Ôªø 1Ñ3 innings. Randa, a Hays native, started 12 games and made 13 appearances. He recorded a team-high 51 strikeouts with 28 walks.
Earning second-team honors for the Tigers were senior relief pitcher Tyler Nuss, senior first baseman Rob Nelson, senior outfielder Tyler Konrade and senior Luke Dreiling, listed as the second team's utility player.
Nuss, a left-hander from Russell, finished 3-2 with a 2.10 ERA in 11 appearances and just three starts. Nuss earned nine of the Tigers' 11 saves this season, pitching 33 innings. He had 27 strikeouts with 11 walks. Nelson was the Tigers' leading hitter, batting .360 in all 51 games this season. Nelson led the team with 44 runs scored and was second with 37 RBIs and had a team-high 13 home runs.
Konrade batted .350 while scoring 36 runs. He led the Tigers with 15 stolen bases.
Dreiling drove in a team-high 52 runs with 12 home runs. His season was highlighted by a four-home run doubleheader last month.
Earning honorable mention honors for the Tigers were senior pitcher Tom Goodwin, freshman shortstop Dylan Briggs and sophomore designated hitter Dusty Washburn.
MIAA regular-season champion University of Central Missouri landed five members on the first team and Mules coach Darin Hendrickson was named the Coach of the Year. The Mules' Josh Paul was a unanimous choice for Player of the Year.
