BOLIVAR, Mo. -- The Fort Hays State University baseball team continued its impressive surge up the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association standings by taking three of four games from Southwest Baptist University.

The Tigers split two games on Friday, winning 10-3 and losing 18-17, and won 11-1 and 10-2 on Saturday. In Friday's first game, Brian Thompson pitched a complete game and allowed one earned run, while Ryan Majercik and Dusty Washburn both homered.

The second game was suspended because of darkness, but Fort Hays scored nine runs in the top of the ninth before Southwest Baptist scored six in the bottom of the inning. Left-hander Matt Augustine took the loss for Fort Hays.

Augustine came back to throw a complete game (no earned runs) in Game 1 Saturday and Brent Biggs homered for the Tigers. James Simpson tossed nine innings of two=run, two-hit ball for the victory and Tyler Robbins and Justin Groff both homered in Game 2.

Fort Hays, which started 4-13, is now 24-25 overall and 20-11 in the MIAA. The Tigers have not been at .500 since they were 1-1 to start the season. They face Pittsburg State University in the last regular season series this weekend at Larks Park.
