Tiger senior Brent Biggs capped a four-hit game with the game-winning hit in the bottom of the eighth inning Friday night at Larks Park.
Biggs' RBI single lifted the Fort Hays State University baseball team to a 6-5 win over Missouri Western State University in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association opener for both teams.
Freshman Ryan Majercik singled with one out in the eighth, and senior Richard Bonansea came in to run for the Tiger catcher. Missouri Western senior A.J. Huttonlocker got the second out of the inning on a fly ball to left, but sophomore Tyler Robbins got aboard on an infield single, and Biggs followed with a single to right to score Bonansea.
Junior left-hander Eric Gilliland pitched a complete game to pick up his first victory of the season for Fort Hays (4-9 overall, 1-0 MIAA). Gilliland (1-2) allowed five runs on eight hits, with one walk and 10 strikeouts. Huttonlocker (0-2) took the loss in relief for Missouri Western (3-9, 0-1).
Robbins also homered for the Tigers and drove in three runs.
