Tiger softball team has good weekend

The Fort Hays State University softball team opened the home portion of its season this weekend by taking three of four games from Oklahoma-Panhandle State.
The Tigers split a pair of games Friday at Tiger Stadium, winning the opener 7-1 then losing the nightcap 12-1. On Saturday, the Tigers (14-9) swept the Aggies (2-15), winning 8-0 in both games.
Saturday's opener ended with a five-run fifth inning. Alyson Garmatz had two RBIs and the Tigers got two hits each from Sara Tani and Terra Fraser.
Jessica Hamilton (2-2) pitched a two-hit shutout, walking two and striking out five.
The second game also ended after five innings. Emily Rockefeller (6-2) scattered six hits in posting the shutout, with one walk and three strikeouts.
Jessika Anastos hit a three-run homer in the Tigers' five-run third and finished the game 3-for-4 with four RBIs. Mona Booca added three hits, including a double, with three runs scored and two RBIs.
In Friday's series opener, Adrian Mohr allowed a run in the first inning, then tossed six shutout innings. Mohr (3-1) allowed six hits, with two walks and five strikeouts.
Booco belted a two-run homer in the Tigers' six-run first. Fraser added a two-run single in the inning.
In Friday's second game, Fort Hays led 1-0 before the visitors scored eight runs in the fourth and four in the fifth.
Kayla Rupa (3-4) took the loss, allowing eight runs -- one earned -- on 10 hits in 3Ôªø2รขÑ3 innings. Hallie McMillen drove in the Tigers' run.
