Tigers go 2-5 in Missouri, host Panhandle Tuesday

JOPLIN, Mo. -- Sophomore left-hander Kayla Rupa tossed a no-hitter Friday for the Fort Hays State University softball team in a 1-0 win over Missouri Science and Technology at the Teri Zenner Memorial Softball Tournament.

Overall, the Tigers went 2-5 at the tournament and are now 13-11 heading into Tuesday's home doubleheader against Oklahoma-Panhande State. Game time is 3 p.m. at Tiger Stadium.

Against Missouri S & T, the Tigers scored the game's lone run on a bases-loaded walk by freshman Rachel Gemmill in the top of the sixth.

Rupa struck out 11, with two walks.

Pittsburg State University beat the Tigers in their second game Friday, 8-5. The Tigers led 4-0, but Pittsburg State scored single runs over the first four innings to make it 4-4. After Fort Hays took a a 5-4 lead in the fourth, the Gorillas scored three in the fifth and one in the sixth.

Rupa took the loss in relief of junior starter Adrian Mohr.

Drury (Mo.) University edged Fort Hays 7-6 in eight innings in the last game on Friday.

The international tiebreaker (starting the inning with a runner on second) was used in the eighth. The Tigers failed to score in the top of the inning, but Drury pushed a run across in the home half to get the win.

Mohr (5-3) took the loss in relief of sophomore starter Erin Kinsey.

On Saturday. Fort Hays split two games, beating Missouri Southern 5-2 and losing to Nebraska-Omaha, 11-1.

Against Missouri Southern, Rupa (7-6) picked up the win in relief of Mohr.

The Tigers scored three runs in the third on an RBI single by senior Hallie McMillen and senior Alex Eaton's two-run double. They added two runs in the fourth on RBI singles by sophomore Sara Tani and freshman Lauren Duran.

In the tourney finale for the Tigers, Kinsey (1-2) took the loss, lasting just a third of an inning, giving up three runs to Nebraska-Omaha.

Mohr hit an RBI triple in the fourth for Fort Hays.

The Tigers host Oklahoma-Panhandle State in a 3 p.m. doubleheader Tuesday at Tiger Stadium.
