FHSU softball wins two games

GOODWELL, Okla. -- The Fort Hays State University softball team swept a doubleheader from Oklahoma-Panhandle State on Monday to climb over the .500 mark for the season. The Tigers won the opener 10-0 in five innings and took the nightcap 6-1.
In Game 1, Rachel Gemmill hit a two-run single in the first inning and Hallie McMillen added an RBI single in the third.
The Tigers batted around in the fourth inning. Cortney Brown led off the inning with a home run. Lauren Duran and Adrian Mohr had consecutive RBI triples. Gemmill and Alex Eaton added RBI singles later in the inning. A two-run double by McMillen in the fifth provided the final two Tiger runs.
Starter Adrian Mohr (7-4) pitched a shutout, striking out two and allowing five hits.
In the second game, the Tigers (18-17) scored three runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth.
In the Tiger fourth, Alex Eaton belted an RBI triple, Chelsea Luther hit a sacrifice fly, and Kayla Rupa added an RBI single.
In the Fort Hays fifth, Gemmill hit an RBI single and another run scored on an error. Eaton followed with her second RBI triple of the game.
Rupa (10-11) went to distance for the Tigers, allowing one run on three hits with four walks. She struck out 10.
The Tigers begin Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play Friday at Warrensburg, Mo., against University of Central Missouri. The Tigers will be in Bolivar, Mo., Saturday for another doubleheader, against Southwest Baptist University.
