FHSU tennis opens season in Iowa

WATERLOO, Iowa -- The Fort Hays State University tennis team opened its season over the weekend at the Upper Iowa Challenge. The second day was canceled due to bad weather.
Sophomore Kelly Smidt was her first match at No. 5 singles, then lost in the semifinals. At. No. 6 singles, Valerie Harris also won her first match, then lost in the semifinals. They had the lone victories in singles.
Harris and Krista Lindsey went 2-1 in No. 3 doubles. Smidt and Alexis Crowther won their opener at No. 3 doubles. Smidt and Crowther lost their semifinal match and fell again in the consolation round.
The Tigers will have duals starting Friday in Denver against Metro State, Colorado State-Pueblo and Mesa State.
