Tiger track team sends ten to nationals

Five Tiger men and five Tiger women from the Fort Hays State University track and field team are headed for the national meet in Charlotte, N.C.
In the largest Tiger contingent since 2000, the qualifiers were announced Monday. The national championships will be contested at Irwin Belk Complex on the campus of Johnson C. Smith University.
For the Tiger men, Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association discus and shot put champion Brady Maska will make the trip in both events. Maska, a junior transfer from Barton County Commmunity College and former Hays High School standout, is coming off a two-gold and one-silver performance at last week's MIAA Championships at Lewis Field Stadium. Maska was second in the hammer throw and will also compete at nationals in the event. Maska earned MIAA Athlete of the Week honors for his efforts.
Maska is joined by sophomore Dan Yoder, who is ranked 13th in the nation and will compete in the 800-meter run. Fellow thrower and sophomore Kyle Reed will compete in the discus, where he is ranked 18th. Freshman Garrett Edgar is ranked second in the javelin and junior javelin thrower Kyle Jilka, ranked 13th, also will compete.
On the women's side, senior heptathlete Casey Wanger qualified in the pole vault. Wanger is ranked 10th in the event, coming off an MIAA title. Senior jumper Amanda Poore is ranked fourth in the nation and will compete in the high jump. Senior Crystal Harden will compete in the triple jump, garnering the 16th best jump in the nation.
Both junior Lindsey McCormick and sophomore Jayci Peters will compete in the javelin. They are ranked 12th and 14th, respectively, in the event. They were two of four javelin throwers that swept the top four spots at the MIAA Championships.
