Tiger women drop another heartbreaker

JOPLIN, Mo. -- The Fort Hays State University women's basketball team lost another heart-breaker Saturday night, losing 76-75 against Missouri Southern State University.

Two nights earlier, the Tigers lost by two points at Pittsburg State University in another Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association game.

On Saturday, Fort Hays had the ball and down a point and had to travel the length of the court on an inbounds play with just seconds left. The Tigers got the ball to Sheena Kuntzsch, who could not get a shot off before the final horn.

"We're all saying 'shoot, shoot, shoot,' she was looking for somebody to pass to," Fort Hays coach Annette Wiles said on her postgame radio show. "I know she feels absolutely horrible.

"We have another game in 48 hours, we can't have a player down," Wiles added.

On Monday, Fort Hays (9-12, 3-9) plays in Warrensburg, Mo., against University of Central Missouri.

In Saturday's game, Missouri Southern (16-5, 7-5) made a 3-pointer at the buzzer to take a 34-33 halftime lead.

Fort Hays led early in the second half, but Missouri Southern went on a 14-4 run to take a 75-72 lead.

Fort Hays had four players score in double figures, with Erica Biel and Raychel Boling scoirng 14 apiece. Naomi Bancroft added 13 points and Kayla Klug scored 10.

Tynesha Pierce led all scorers with 28 points for Missouri Southern.
