Winning Saturday' conference opener is important for the Fort Hays State University women's basketball team.
The Tigers travel to Omaha, Neb., for a 4 p.m. tipoff against University of Nebraska-Omaha.
UNO is 3-3 overall and 0-1 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association after losing 68-47 at home against 15th-ranked Washburn University on Wednesday.
Fort Hays is 6-0 entering MIAA play after an 88-57 home win over Newman University on Wednesday.
If the Tigers are to contend with the conference powers, beating a team like UNO is vital, Fort Hays coach Tony Hobson said.
"I think they are in the same place we are, a middle-of-the pack team," Hobson said. "That's a team we've got to beat."
Senior guard Naomi Bancroft leads Fort Hays in scoring at 15.7 points per game, the only Tiger averaging in double figures. Senior guard Audra Binford is averaging 9.7 points and senior forward Erica Biel is averaging 9.5 points and a team-high 6.2 rebounds.
UNO is led in scoring by senior guard Alyssa Green at 11.8 points per game, followed by senior forward Ashley Nelson, who is averaging 11 points.
