Tiger wrestlers fall to Adams State

ALMOSA, Colo. -- The Fort Hays State University wrestling team lost 21-19 on the road Thursday against Adams State (Colo.) College. The Tigers were ranked No. 15 in NCAA Division II, while Adams State stood No. 11. Fort Hays dropped to 3-2 in duals and 2-2 in the RMAC. Each squad won five matches each, but Adams State managed to erase a 16-6 deficit for the victory.
Fort Hays won four of the first six matches, including three straight. At 165, junior Sam Thoman earned a pin in 1 minute, 58 seconds to give FHSU a 6-3 lead. Freshman Benny Armstrong collected an 8-6 victory at 174 pounds. Then, freshman Josh Rodriguez won by major decision, 11-2, at 184 pounds. After the Grizzlies won at 197, senior Justin Glenn earned a 10-5 victory at 285 pounds.
Adams State followed with two straight wins -- a pin and a major decision -- to tie the match at 16. Fort Hays pulled ahead at 19-16 when sophomore C.J. Napier won a 4-2 decision at 141 pounds. However, Fort Hays lost by technical fall in the final match.
