Tiger wrestlers finish 1-2 in MIAA Dual Championships

WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- The Fort Hays State University wrestling team lost its first two duals at the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Dual Championships, but won its final dual Sunday to finish 1-2.

The MIAA has four schools compete in wrestling, but does not recognize it for league championship honors.

Fort Hays, ranked 19th in the nation, beat Truman State (Mo.) University 37-9 after losing 34-6 to No. 1 University of Nebraska-Omaha and 18-15 to 18th-ranked University of Central Missouri. The Tigers are now 9-5 in duals.

Against Truman State, Fort Hays won the first seven matches, scoring 31 unanswered points. Winning fro the Tigers: Dustin Dooley (125 pounds); Travis Kuhn (133); James Annon (141); Dylan Loyd (149); Casey Hudson (157); Troy Lussenhop (165); Shawn Kuhlman (174) and Ben Evans (197). Kuhn, Lussenhop and Evans all had pins, and Loyd had a major decision.

Central Missouri edged the Tigers, winning the final match to get the win. With the team score knotted at 15, the Mules' Cody Beck, ranked fifth in the nation, defeated Justin Glenn, 3-2.

Winning for the Tigers were Tommy Edgmon at 125 pounds; Annon at 141; Levi Younkin at 149; Kuhlman at 174; Evans at 197.

In the loss to Nebraska-Omaha, the Tigers' only points came on a forfeit win by Evans at 197. The Mavericks had eight nationally ranked wrestlers compete in the dual.
