Tigers take three from Stanford

TECUMSEH -- The Fort Hays State University wrstling team won three matches against NCAA Division I Stanford University in Friday night's season opener. But the Cardinals won the dual, 26-9.
The dual began at 125 pounds, with Stanford'sTanner Gardner, ranked fifth in NCAA Division I, pinning Fort Hays senior Kyle Patton at 5:42. At 133 pounds, Justin Paulsen of Stanford defeated freshman Blake Fisher, 5-2.
Tiger junior James Annon got the first win for Fort Hays at 141 pounds, beating Matt Kim, 7-6.
Stanford won the next three matches. At 149 pounds, Lucas Espericueta defeated senior Josh Pfannenstiel by major decision, 13-5. At 157 pounds, Josh Zupancic, ranked sixth in NCAA Division I, won 3-0 over senior Eric Johnson. Stanford's Peter Miller defeated Danny Grater, who is ranked sixth NCAA II at 157 pounds, 7-2, at 165 pounds.
Sophomore Blake Malloy defeated Stanford's Alex Muller at 174 pounds,5-2.
Zack Giesen of Stanford defeated sophomore Shawn Kuhlman at 184 pounds by major decision, 14-4, and Jake Johnson of Stanford defeated Tyler Gonzales, ranked fourth in NCAA Division II, at 197 pounds, 5-1.
Fort Hays claimed the final match with senior Dustin Martin defeating Phillip Doerner, 2-1, at 285 pounds.
Fort Hays was to wrestle in the Central Missouri Open today in Warrensburg, Mo.
